MLK Service Day
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith is looking for volunteers to help serve at the MLK Day parade in downtown Fort Smith, AR from 10-1. Volunteers will help distribute information on financial literacy to remind the community that Dr. King fought against all forms of injustice including financial disparities. During his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize address, he is quoted as saying "There is nothing new about poverty. What is new, however, is that we have the resources to get rid of it." One of our greatest resources to share is education on how to find one's way out of poverty. UAFS will partner with other area agencies including United Way of Northwest Arkansas and the Literacy Council of Northwest Arkansas to distribute materials related to financial literacy.
Volunteers will be expected to stand during the duration of their volunteer work. AmeriCorps members must wear service gear during the event. Due to the possibility of cold temperatures, wear appropriate attire.
