SEARK-Future Teacher Initiative
AR FTI half-time AmeriCorps members will each serve 900 hours of service through tutoring, service projects and parent involvement and training. Members will be assigned a minimum of 10 students who have been targeted by their host site as at-risk of academic failure. Our goal is to have these students at the appropriate stage to start kindergarten. The member will provide one-on-one and small group tutoring on a weekly basis and track each student's progress during their time in service.
Program benefits include a living allowance in the amount of $5,800.00 distributed in 10 equal installments of $580.00. The living allowance is taxable and paid only while the member is in service. In addition, mileage reimbursement will be offered for service related training travel if funds are available . Half-time (900 hour) member may earn an education award up to $3,097.50 if the member successfully completes the program requirements. Student loan forbearance as well as experience in the field of education are additional benefits of the program.
The FTI program start date is September 1, 2020 and the end date is August 31, 2021.
The FTI program will accept applications from 09/01/2020-08/31/2021.
Service areas for this project include Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Clark, Desha, and Drew Counties.
Skills and required documents: the applicant must be 17 years of age or older with a high school diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma (GED), have reliable transportation, and have an expressed interest in the field of education.and/or a strong commitment to service. Required documents include a driver's license or State issed ID, a birth certificate, a social security card, and a completed application packet.
