Smart Start AmeriCorps Tutoring Program
AmeriCorps members needed in Southeast Arkansas' public schools as tutors in K-5th grade. The goal of the Smart Start AmeriCorps Program is to provide intense one-on-one and small group tutorial reading and math assistance for increased risk for academic failure students in grades K-5. Helping children through one-on-one and small group tutoring is a major service SEARK AmeriCorps members provide. Members complete service projects- as approved by the program director, help with parent involvement sessions, assist with daily activities, are positive role models for children, gain experience in the education field and attend required trainings. Each member is required to serve a minimum of 900 hours of service with the host site.
Schedule: Half-Time, Reduced Half time, and Quarter Time Slots Available
Benefits: Monthly Living Allowance Stipend, Education Award
Program Start/End Date: 9/1/2020-8/31/2021
Service Areas: Drew, Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Desha, Lincoln, Dallas Counties. Southeast Arkansas' Public Elementary Schools
Skills: Smart Start members should have the ability to provide intense one on one tutoring to at-risk for failure students in reading and math. They should have strong leadership skills and the ability to take initiative, work well with students and staff and maintain written records as well as technology skills.
