2018 MEGA KINGFEST

The MEGA KINGFEST is the official state observance of the congressionally legislated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a United States holiday that marks the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and is observed on the third Monday of January each year. The Day of Service, “A Day On, Not a Day Off!” is branded as the MEGA KINGFEST because of the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission’s observance was recognized by the media as the largest observance in the nation honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the fourth most popular destination in the country for volunteerism during the King Holiday weekend.

The Day of Service MEGA KINGFEST is an invitation statewide for Arkansans to get out and serve and sow into their respective communities. The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission hosts community cleanups, free public transportation through a partnership with Rock Region Metro, free haircuts, free food, and free services to the at-risk community such as hygiene kits, coat drives, blood drives, preventative health screenings, and job counseling.

It is the goal of the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission to ensure that as a state agency the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is available to all Arkansans through its outreach and programming. The Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission has hosted programs in every region in Arkansas with the Day of Service MEGA KINGFEST as its signature event.

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is grateful for the continuous support. We thank you once again and look forward to your anticipated generosity, and in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.”
